24-Hour pH Study

This test measures the amount of acid that flows back into your esophagus from your stomach over 24 hours. It helps diagnose conditions like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which can cause symptoms like heartburn, regurgitation, and chest pain.

What to Expect

Preparation
You may need to stop certain medications and avoid eating or drinking for a few hours before the test.
During the Test
A thin tube is inserted through your nose into your esophagus. The tube is connected to a monitor that records acid levels.
After the Test
You can go about your normal activities while wearing the monitor. The tube is removed after 24 hours.

Bravo Capsule

The Bravo capsule is a wireless, capsule-sized device that attaches to the lining of your esophagus to measure pH levels over 48 hours. It offers a more comfortable alternative to the traditional 24-hour pH study as it doesn’t involve a nasal tube.

What to Expect

Preparation
Similar to the 24-hour pH study, you may need to stop certain medications and fast for a few hours.
During the Procedure
The capsule is attached to your esophagus during an endoscopy. It transmits pH data to a small receiver you wear.
After the Procedure
You can eat and drink normally, and the capsule will pass naturally through your digestive system in a few days.
